This is the awakened state of the astral sense; and while within this state, one knows and realizes all perceptions in the Astral world.

Astral perceptions are therefore not mental, not thoughts, not calculations of the mind, they are instead, the discovery via emotion. The sites, sounds of the astral are therefore the discovery through emotion. Emotion is driven by two forces: ECK and Kal, but in the dreams it is often the ECK and Mahanta that sustain the dreamer with positive emotions (love, generosity, gratitude).
