Source of Desire

Source of Desire

This morning I sat in contemplation with the Mahatna. I sang the HU, and put attention on the spiritual center. After some time I just asked, “What is the source of desire, of lust that causes men to fall into selfishness, and greed?”

While I did have thoughts ripen on this topic, I decided to flip to a random passage in the Shariyat-Ki-Sugmad, the Holy book of Eckankar. I have only just received the book so the spine has not been bent to any pages, nor has the book been opened much at all. All this to say that the page I opened to was new to me, having never been read or opened before.

The paragraph I read was directly related to desire, lust, anger, and so on. This passage was about “Kal,” who is the source of desire. It literally answered the question as direct as possible. It was shocking. There was no need to interpret a vague passage. It directly responded to my question.

I have never heard of the “Kal.” While it seems similar to the Abrahamic concept of “Satan,” or adversary, it seems to hold it’s own identity.

Trying to understand the Kal, I flipped a few pages back and noticed some mentions regarding card games, and other personal issues. I need to really think about this more to feel what is meant by these items.
