The thoughts and opinions expressed on this site are my own and do not necessary reflect that of any other spiritual group, society, leader or organization.
I started this blog to keep track of my thoughts with regards to the Eckankar material. You might wonder, “what’s Eckankar?” I’ll explain my thoughts on Eckankar in the next paragraph. Suffice to say, this is a spiritually focused blog.
Eckankar
Eckankar is a modern religion started by Paul Twitchell in 1965. The organization is currently run by Sri Harold Klemp, and in a few weeks, it will have a new leader as he rotates out. I find it interesting that I came into Eckankar the same year a new leader will be announced. More information on Eckankar can be found at their main website: https://eckankar.org and specifically, one can go to https://www.eckankar.org/explore/what-is-eckankar to find information about the basics of Eckankar and its belief system.
Harold Klemp
While a lot of spiritual groups will claim to offer freedom, Eckankar actually accomplishes this task. Listening to many lectures by Harold Klemp on Spotify, I was impressed with his careful attention to the agency and autonomy of others. I highly recommend listening to the free lectures of Sri Harold Klemp on Spotify, which I’ve linked below:
Harold Klemp is also an author and his books can be found on Amazon (Kindle as well as in Print).
What I Like About Eckankar
Over the years I’ve developed my own belief system. In my inner reflection I came to a conclusion that the prime source (God) is without gender (neither male nor female). I also came to understand that traveling out of body isn’t traveling in a movement sense. It is more akin to becoming aware at a new location. I always felt dreams were important, as well as the spiritual experience. In regards to the worldly affairs of humanity, I felt that the passions, fears, and worried turned into lust, anger and hatred. The stronger the trigger the more rapidly one steps away from the spiritual path in favor of solutions found in the physical universe. All of these ideas I have found in Eckankar. My personal truth is exposed from the group and I really resonate with them.
The people are amazing. I’ve been in a lot of groups and typically the first year is the honeymoon year. My views may change after the first year, but right now I am very impressed with the kindness and empathy that the online meetings have had.
How I Found Eckankar
My path to Eckankar is briefly discussed in a post titled, “Roadmap to Eckankar.”
To explain briefly, I was raised by a Christian minister. He was a very nice fellow. My parents felt that the Bible answered all their questions, but I really couldn’t connect with that idea. I was seeking answers not covered in the Bible and over the years I soured my views on the church system itself. My home life was somewhat different. I grew up fairly strict. I wasn’t allowed to listen to music, go to theaters, and my more extreme family required me to burn books under threat of exorcism. The influence of extremism in my youth, allowed me to spot the danger as an adult.
I went through different phases in my life and many different belief systems. I remembered the word “Eckankar” from a location I used to live near. Looking into it (reading the works of Mr. Klemp, listening to lectures) I found so much connection with who I am.
